Healing Neck & Shoulders from 10+ Years of Deferred Maintenance
August 16, 2017
It’s time to heal my neck and shoulders. This time for good. The time is now. I will do it, and I won’t let anything get in the way of my health.
Over the last 10 years I’ve took for granted my neck & shoulder health. I’ve worked a tremendous amount of hours, especially on the computers. I learned how to type quickly playing Ultima Online, the world’s first real MMORPG. Back then you’d have to type everything you want to say. Running around, attacking people and typing at the same time. My experience was always being tense when typing quickly. I believe I’ve carried that experience throughout the rest of my life, and now I’m learning how to relax while typing quickly. This is one, of many factors, that have caused my neck & shoulder muscles to degrade.
Overall my health has been fantastic. I’m now 30 years old. Diet and nutrition was never an issue. I spent a lot of time learning about it in high school from Tony Robbins. Even though I just knew the basics, it served me for a long time. I always prouded myself without having to do extensive workouts, in fact, any at all, to almost maintain my body, shape and weight by simply eating. What was missing though, is the needed consistent exercise to keep my spine, neck and shoulders in optimal health.
I recently got done traveling around the world, for several years, for months and months on end. I’m now settling down back in my home town in Portland, Oregon and it feels great. I’m building up a new routine, and this time it’s solely focused on health first. I want to have amazing health to do everything I want in life. Without it, I’m unable to contribute to myself or anyone else.
I’ve put together the following plan:
- Sun Salutations Daily
- Yoga 1–2x a week
- Workout 2–3x a week
- Cardio 2–3x a week
- Massage Therpary 2–3x a week
- Hired two personal trainers (online + local)
- Signed up for a gym
- Journalling about my health 3–4x a week
- Drinking 90 fl.oz of water a day (already a habit)
- Drinking a 100% veggie green smoothie in the morning (already a habit when not traveling)
- Doing my best to be awake with the sun, and going to bed at night time (I used to stay up late, but prolonged computer work just isn’t for me any more)
While I’ve had plans before, this time it’s different. I’ve always known what to do, and sometimes I did it. But I was never consistent. I know the key to most things in life is just showing up and being consistent.
I’ve made a decision that this is the last time I’ll ever have issues again, and I’m excited for my transformation.
PS: I just recently setup medium, and I’m excited to start sharing publicly again. I’m excited to share about health, wellness, entrepreneurship, investing and building tribes.
