Two Simple Philosophies to Help Take Immediate Action

Saturday, December 9th, 2006

After reading several books and listening to audio CDs, not only have I learned the philosophies in the book, but I have started to apply them and they are simple ways to help take action immediately.

It is quite clear that after studying success through books, seminars, and audio CDs which talk about personal development, there are many different techniques that we are able to use in our daily lives to improve our performance. There is a significant amount of recommendations to try everyday, but with to many ideas, it can sometimes become unapplied knowledge because there are simply to many to use. However, theses two, combined together, from different sources in my opinion are a powerful, less than a 20 second method to maintain a slight edge advantage and avoid the procastination by taking action which I use every day now.

The first philosophy is from Jim Rohn’s “The Art of Exceptional Living”, to ask ourselves the following question, “Will the errors in my present judgment of philosophy, what’s that going to cost me in one year, six years. One month, six months? I’m telling you the money costs, and the health costs, and the success costs are is to gigantic if you look down the road a little ways and say, are there errors in my current judgment like an apple a day vs. a heresy bar a day.”

In short, what Jim Rohn is saying, is that you should look at your current actions, the actions you are taking everyday, and ask yourself what is that going to cost me in the future? For example, have you heard the phrase, an apple a day keeps the doctor away? Here is a good question for you, what if that is true? See some people have it all messed up; someone else says a heresy bar a day. Noooo, it is not heresy bar. So ask yourself, what is going to be the future cost of the errors in my present judgment of philosophy.

The second is from the book, “The Magic of Thinking Big,” which is a must read for anyone who wants success. In this book there is a suggestion that simply talks about the following. Every day there are chores, and tasks that we must do in order to be productive. Whenever you get the urge to put something off, to procrastinate, to think about not doing it, do it, right then and there. So when you even start to procrastinate, just do it at that moment, right at the moment.

Combine the two together you have an awesome tool to use to your advantage, asking yourself what your errors in your judgment are, and if you seem to procrastinate on doing the task, just do it immediately without thinking any more about doing it. So for example before I wrote this blog, it is almost midnight I’m very tired and about to goto bed.  I sit on my bed for a second and lay down, and think to myself oh, I haven’t written my page today and brushed my teeth.  Like everyone does for the most part, laying there comfortably, ah, what a pain to do those chores.  But then I remember, and use the knowledge I had.  Procastinating on those two is a current error in my judgement which would affect me later on, the habit, and then right then and there, without thinking any more I uncomfortbly got up wrote my page, and did my brushing up before bed.  After that, I felt good, and that is called “personal power,” the ability to take action.

t is late at night and I started to decide if I should write my one page today, or go to bed. I also needed to brush my teeth, as I sat there and started thinking about it, I just went ahead and immediately wrote my page, went to brush my teeth. And ladies and gentlemen, that is called “personal power,” taking action.

Although I still struggle with this sometimes I constantly try to immediately take action and think about future results.  It is so exciting and you do it more and more often, it becomes more natural and you start to gain control.  It is so incredible when you know that you are doing the right activity, applying knowledge, and being productive, it is an incredible feeling.  So here it is one more time, and think about applying it in your life.

  • Asking yourself, “What will the errors in my current judgment cost me in the future?”
  • And, whenever I start to even think about procastinating anything, immediately take action, do whatever it is you are procastinating about without thinking twice about it.

You can apply it to all areas in your life. Incredible.

The Best Investment Possible, Is Investing In Yourself

Friday, December 8th, 2006

As I was programming my website today I came across a ton of information about making my site secure. Unfortunately, I did not know how easy it was for people to hack into sites. After reading an article by a security guru, I decided to book and found my self going on a shopping spree. But what would Wes buy, I’ll show you.

The best investment you can make is investing in yourself, becoming a better person. I’m going to have the privilege to be a public speaker at our upcoming events, I’m going to start this web 2.0 community for a sellout, and learn how to program. What better way than to learn from the experts themselves. I went ahead a purchased a bunch more books for my library. In life, they put the valuable things on the top shelf, in order to reach them we have to stand on the books we read. Take a look at this post for a perfect example of an 18 yr old, who has a multimillion dollar company because he has become a multimillion dollar person by developing himself.

In other words, as Jim Rohn says, “Learn to work harder on yourself than you do on your job, if you work hard at your job you’ll make a living, if you work hard on yourself you’ll make a fortune.

Investment in Books: $ 150

I’m sure you will agree with me, that I will go a lot more value than $150 out of theses books. What are you reading? “The person who can read and doesn’t, is the same as someone who can not read at all.” In other words, if you can study success in whatever field you want to pursue, and don’t read books that teach you how to have success in certain fields, than you are the same as an individual who can not read books.  Take a look at the books I just purchased for myself, wouldn’t you agree that they will help me.  Wouldn’t you also agree that they would probably help other people if they read it.  The challenge is, that most people simply do not read life changing information.

Here the books are that I just purchased, I’ll take a picture of my library in progress. All houses over $200,000 have a library in them.  Why is that?  It’s a clue, start a library it’ll change your life.

Only 2 Hours and 10 minutes late to my final exam today!

Wednesday, December 6th, 2006

This morning I will was up till about 6am after working on the book, websites, reading blogs and my book, Six Great ideas.  I set the alarm on my laptop, because my orignal alarm broke.  Thought I was ready to go, had to wake up at about 7:30, so I would have had an hour and a half of sleep.  Well it turns out, for some odd reason, I don’t know why my laptop alarm clcok did not go up, and while my GEO final started at 9am I was asleep.  Please note that I’am like a 10 minute drive from school, so I get up and look down at my computer which lost its battery power and is dead.

At first glance, I’m alittle confused and then realize I’m WAY late for my final exam.  Anyways, instead of stressing about it like most people do I thought of the best case situtation in my head, which was approaching the professor during the last minutes of the exam and asking for another retake.  Although I knew it was greatly to my benefit that I sat in the front row every class so the professor saw me there everyday.

Bolting out the door, I got in my car and had to park in the teacher’s spot!  I ran to Wiegner 151 where the tests were takin place, I walk in theres like only five people finishing up there exams.  They kinda look over at me like I’m a crazy guy, what, coming to class 10 minutes before the final exam is due.  But always feeling positive about the situtation, after talking to Dr. Lillie he was more than happy to allow me to take the test tommorow at 6pm, which I better not miss because I sat in front of class everytime.  I then took my math final after leaving, came back to my car and luckily there was no ticket there.
Anyways, I thought that was pretty cool.  Don’t think about the negatives, just think about the positive outcomes that will arise from the situtation.  Yes there is negative, but think 95% positive about everything.  It also helps to sit in the front of class where the teacher can see you as it builds report, had he never seen me before, I’m sure he woulda said no way wes.  Also make sure you got a working alarm clock. Wow, that was sketchy.

I’m Excited School & Programming

Wednesday, December 6th, 2006

Today was a good day, I studied for my math, and geology final for tommorow. I should be doing above average on both of those tests and did it fairly quick. I do not understand how some people spend several days studying for exams, but I’m sure they do not understand the entrepreneur risk taker either. Regardless, after that I spoke with my realtor, got a new good faith estimate so we are going to be look at some properties together soon.

He recommended me not to rush into an investment property which I whole heartly agree with him. Although most people wouldn’t appreciate my new facebook image I created, the personal developed would. Funny enough, I spent to long making the visualization but everytime I log into facebook it is there, showing me some of the experiences I will have. I found out the maximum picture for a facebook profile image is 200×600, so I decided to create the largest one. Profile images are also a good way to advertise your buisness or whatever because how large they can be, and at how many people see them. I’ll create a blog later on the power of networking, but unlike most books, networking in the web 2.0 community through forums, emails, instant messaging, blogs, etc.

I got back to programming my website and all is good, it has taken me a couple hours to figure out how to let someone log into my site, and start to edit their information. Although it is a great experience, and after this break there will be nothing stopping me from releasing my new web 2.0 product that will attract some heavy traffic.

It is 2:27am right now, I have a test at 9:30am. Today is the last day of finals, then I have the full month’s break to be productive and finding a new roommate because Steve is graduating today. Although I think I found a roommate, or two off my website CorvallisClassifieds.net, there is also a corvallis apartment database I created for anyone searching for apartments in corvallis. If you are reading this, and going to be in Portland, OR area and interested in creating some residual income please contact me through email. I’am not going to pitch you on anything, but would welcome you if you want to join a team of individuals who are going to be creating websites on the internet for a large sum of income + residuals.

A Semi-Typical Day In My World

Tuesday, December 5th, 2006

Well I’m finishing this blog at about 6am, it is not uncommon for me to go to bed very late because I’m normally up working on my laptop. With the 24/7 activity on the world wide web, it really doesn’t matter whether or not I’m working at 9-5pm, so as an entrepreneur, we are able to set out own hours and work whenever we want. It is a great experience.

Today, my friend Charmon helped me study for a Sociology Test, which I took today. I m unsure what grade I’ll get in the class, and then I studied for my math final on Wednesday. After that it was about 9pm, however, it was the start of my business productive day. After getting home I talked with Marc Rogers, an individual in Portland, OR who is helping me find an investment property to purchase in North Portland. Then, I went ahead and talked to the mortgage broker to give me some more good faith estimates to see compare the numbers on different loans. My real estate transaction is going along well. I saw several multi family units in N Portland, however nothing to exciting. They all bring around 22-25k gross per year, they are all around 300k for a three units. The pictures were some of the properties that I have been looking at as possible investments. And for those people who don’t understand leverage, no, I do not have 300k liquid cash sitting in my bank account. Not yet anyways, but no, I’m borrowing the money from the bank. To many people say I do not have money, if I did I would invest. Well don’t kill yourself mentally, OPM, other people’s money, use the bank’s money not your own.

Then I logged into Facebook, and there were several messages from other entrepreneurs who I have began to network with. One individual is starting a next work marketing company selling personal defense weapons, and devices; although I respectfully declined it was quite interesting to see what he was doing. Another individual was creating an online community for aspiring entrepreneurs; his site blulite thought was very hard to navigate. Another guy Adrian is a ETF trader and creating a good sum of cash working part time, but producing full time income.

I also got in contact with Ben Casnocha, as listed below, I emailed him and he replied back giving thanks. I’ve just been recently at aw on the great people I’m able to talk to. With almost everyone I know going places, I’m going with them, and my other friend Chris, had his lyrics featured in Source magazine. That is incredible, working with Snoop Dogg, and he has Nas who is interested in his beats. Wow, everyone is doing great, and I’m just living it with them. Anyways, afterwards I had fun working on writing my book on the law of association for about an hour and a half. Read some other entrepreneur blogs, some interesting news on Donald Trump, and then started to work on programming my new web 2.0 community which is starting to look good. I also made an offer on a domain name I’m interested in purchasing, however I still can’t tell everyone what the web 2.0 community I’m creating untill it is already launched.

So this is a random rant on what s go on in my world, and a pretty typical day of networking, and working on sites. I’ll finish it off by reading 10 pages of a good book, Six Great Ideas, by J. Mortimer Adler.

The Journey of 1 Page A Day, Begins Again, For Good

Tuesday, December 5th, 2006

Several months ago I decided to write a book on the law of association, “How you become the combined average of the five people you associate the most with.” For several months my books was moving steadily along, it had accumlated over 50 pages of brain storming material, a table of contents, layout, outline, and was getting closer to being ready. Then for some reason my negative thoughts were clouding my mind and I lost interest in writing the book. So for about the last two months I have stopped writing my book, and it has been sitting as a useful resource loaded with typos that I ended up letting my friend up in Ohio read.

As I mentioned in my previous blog I’m helping out a fellow aspiring entrepreneur start his first internet venture, we are talking online and I hope to help him achieve his future goals. We talk alot about buisness, reading books, and general fun stuff, its great to know that he relates so well to me. I’m encourgaging him to work on himself, so I’m sending him some CDs in the mail tommorow and went ahead and sent him my unfinished book. Why Not?

Well after he read the book he mentioned he enjoyed reading it, thought it was good and suggested I complete the book. I agreed with him and want to finish the book, and after studying how the mind works I’m able to write the book with more enthusasim. See what was happening is my daily page a day started to get on my nerves, I’d wait till way late at night to do it, and hammer out one page a day.

With one page a day, after a year that is 365 pages of a good book written. That was my goal, but I was loosing my daily discipline. So after learning the Silivia Mind Control method, it mentioned the following. “If you want to regain enthusiam about something you are doing, review the benefits.” Know why you are doing it. We do not wash our dishes, to wash our dishes, we wash our dishes so we have a clean kitchen with dishes ready to be used. I was looking at the negative aspect of writing everyday, while instead, I should have, and now I do, look at the positive side, the end result of being able to write a book.

Book WritingSo heres my why, the why makes it all worthwhile. I’am writing a book so I can give back to the community which has helped me out throughout my life. It is a chance for me to share some quality information that has positively affected me, and I’m able to share it with others. It gives me a credible source to referr to when selling myself when people want to invest in me and my buisnesses. Although I do not necessarily like titles, it would be nice to know that at age 19 I have successfully writen a book and call myself an author. I’m able to inspire, instruct, and help others succeed with the knowledge in the book. And maybe, it will provide me with some residuals from the book selling (even though I might just make it for free), and bring more attention to my works.

See how much more compelling the why is, other than, I want to just write a book. This is why, I’ve regained focus and will continue to publish the book and will probably just place it on my site for free so someone can read it. Then possibly make the next book a best seller, maybe, if I really want it.

What is so funny about the whole situtation is my writing is very basic, in high school I read about 2-3 books, and did not enjoy writing. Now all of the sudden I’m writing a book and barely pass my writing classes, but the grades won’t stop me, its just ironic. I would have never thought I’d do this. You will be reading it if you stay in touch with me.

Wow, What Personal Development Can Do

Monday, December 4th, 2006

I discovered the blog of this young 18-year old entrepreneur who makes over a million dollars a year with his company off the America’s Best Young Entrepreneurs by BuisnessWeek for 2006 or something. Although I was going to merely add his blog to my blogroll because I’m so humble towards this individual I was astonished to see what his backing his that has made him so successful.

Ben Casnocha has been listed in several magazine articles, has one of the top 25 blogs in Las Angeles, very successful, has done public speaking seminars for large universities, is a writer and an avid reader. But again, I want to hit on the point what made him so successful. See everyone wants results, but most people do not know how to achieve their results. This is how it works:

Philosophies -> Thoughts -> Actions -> Results

In other words, if you have the right philosophies you will be able to create the right results in your life. What are some philosophies? Here are just a few examples.

  • Learn to work harder on yourself than you do on your job
  • Profits are better than wages
  • Buy Assets, Minimize Liabilities
  • You become the combined average of the five people you associate with the most
  • The Slight Edge
    • Failure: A couple errors in judgement repeated daily over and over. (Imagine 6 years)
    • Success: A few daily disciplines repeated over and over.
  • If you think you can, or think you can’t, your right

See it is the philosophies that we have toward life that direct our thought patterns. Our thought patterns determine our actions we take in life, and our actions create the results we have in life. So this is what got me so humbled when I saw this information, the time he has taken to work on himself, and the personal development he has achieved. Jim Rohn quotes, “In life, we put the nice luxuries on the top shelf, in order to get them you have to stand on the books you read.

I’m currently building a library for myself, but will be stepping it up a noch. I want you to look at Ben Casnocha’s book list for two years in high school. When I saw this, I was quite humbled. No wonder this kid has a company that produces around a million dollars a year, look at the person he has become, look at the books he has read alone. I’m telling you those books have changed his philosophies, he continues to read, and is going to write books. When I saw that book list, I must say, I was greatly impressed by this. If he can do it, I can do it to, and so can you.

To Many Buisness Ideas, No Focus, No Progress

Monday, December 4th, 2006

If you are an entrepreneur you have probably came into the challenge of having to much abundance in your life. If you are like me, an individual who wants to achieve massive success, there is always to many ideas to pursue. So many infact, that if you tried to do all of them you would literally never get anything done at all. The current most efficient way I can solve this is by cutting out buisness ventures.

My friend Alex Neighbors wanted to do a buisness with me on a local scale in Corvallis, which would be oriented towards Google for a sellout later for some millions. Great idea, can work, and it has massive potential if he sets his mind to it. With his enthuasiam got me excited about the idea and I went for it. Although in the back of my mind, I’m always deciding with if I should join or not. I helped him a little bit for the first week, but after thinking, and looking back more I have decided to drop it and focus on my other objectives.

Right now I’am already battling with five priorities which take up a signifcant amount of time already. And can take up as much time as I want to devote to them:

  1. School
  2. RotaryEngineIllustrated.com and my partnership with Pineapple Racing
  3. Setting up a solid foundation for the OSU Real Estate Investment Club for the winter 2007 term
  4. Purchasing an investment property in N Portland
  5. Programming and Starting a new web 2.0 buisness, which I will reveal to everyone within a month after completion
  6. Writing 1 page of my book a day on the Law of Association

Those are the main tasks that I’am facing, although yes, I could add more to my plate, I would loose focus. I love the MP3 by Donald Trump, if you have not heard it you should definintely check it out. Visit Why We Want You To Be Rich website, and you can download it for free. It’s an incredible MP3 which Donald Trump tells us of his philosophies of buisness success most important he says the following.

You have to have momentum to get anything done, and you must have focus. The moment you loose your focus you will also loose your momentum, the two go together. When I heard that, it made sense, and has been something I’ve been having a challenge with for almost two years. To much abundance, although I will cut out some more of my activities above to, the best I can do is start to lead others(I don’t like the term dictate) the tasks to other people who can pursue the vision of each mission.

It would be best if I just had one focus, so stay focused on whatever you need to do.

Intelligent Self Interest

Sunday, December 3rd, 2006

Sharing is intelligent self interest and I’ve been enjoying the process ever since I started it.  Simply put if I share an idea with ten people, they hear the idea once, but I hear the idea ten times.  By sharing information, and teaching people we are able to gain self interest as well.  This is why it is called, “Intelligent Self Interest,” by Jim Rohn.

Here is my intelligent self interest, I’m starting the Oregon State University Real Estate Investment Club to teach students how to invest in real estate.  That is the instrinic values, the extrinisc values are that I learn how to become a better public speaker, learn more about real estate myself, have more connections, able to really help people succeed, and have a lot of fun doing it.  I’m also helping a fellow entrepreneur in high school, who I met online and I’ve been trying to help him get going on a buisness.

The greatest experiences, and most rewarding events are when someone places your name in their testimonial.  How incredibly wonderful is that to hear that you have been able to positively affect someone’s life, it is huge and it is something we should all strive for.  As Zig Zigler says, “If you help everyone get what they want, you’ll have everything you want.”  And that is exactly what I’m doing in my ventures, if I can help several people make a $100,000 a year income, I surely can do it for myself.

Intelligent Self Interest, Learn to Share, Learn to Give. So Incredible.

I Work, While Others Study

Sunday, December 3rd, 2006

Although studying for finals is extremely important in getting good grades in school, I tend to focus my time on creating a business that will provide residual income. It’s interesting to point out my mentor’s philopsophy, Jim Rohn, “If You Could Do Better, Should You.” I agree with his statement to a point, that we should do better, but only to a point. It seems that you can only do so much better to a degree where you have to lessen the degree of other influences. For example, I can focus on school and buisness, but lean more on the other.

Despite this, as an entrepreneur I still do all of my homework and get fairly decent grades. My average GPA is around a 3.2 which is majority B’s and Lower A’s. Although I could get all A’s if I really wanted to, and some say I should, in my mind the grades will not determine my net worth. I appreciate school, dropped out, and have returned but think they are overrated. In conclusion I tend to work on my buisnesses for most of dead week while everyone is studying, and thats what I just been doing.

I hate to sound almost negative towards grades, I do think they are actually quite important.  The further I look back upon my grades has made a huge impact in my life.  With out a strong grade ethics in middle school, and an average gpa around 2.3 during middle school lacking focus, during my high school years I also had a low gpa.  This low gpa has influenced where I have gone to school, and grades have opened and closed doors.

When I relate it today, if I had better grades during middle school, my grades probably would have been higher during high school which would of helped getting into a higher class university.  Oregon State University is great, although there is much more action and opportunity in living in the Silicon Valley which is where I plan on moving potentially.  At my current point in life, as a college student, I’m still lost in respects to where exactly I’d like to go.  At this moment I’m at OSU studying buisness, and working on a project that I believe will expand throughout the world even if I’m in corvallis.  And when the Real Estate Club gets going, I might not want to leave it, but continue to build it.  What I’m saying in my current stage is that if I’m going to stay at OSU it really makes no difference if I’m getting all A’s, or all B’s, I don’t get C’s and don’t get D’s.  So this is the end of my studying, school, and buisness conflicting rant.
